How does it feel to be incarcerated? Prisons like Lincoln and Liverpool were built to be intimidating. In an old building, the proximity of death and violence – in both the past and present – can feel overbearing. Experiences of confinement and isolation are often defined by fear and anxiety. Prisons can also be scary places to work. In this environment, the creative work of drawing or writing might be a way of passing the time, documenting your fears, or managing emotional and psychological challenges of being inside.
