Pigeon

Prisons like Liverpool and Lincoln accommodate around 22,000 incarcerated people and employ thousands more prison staff and contractors in England and Wales. As well as institutions of confinement, these buildings are noisy, bustling, and often overcrowded places of home and work. The accumulating dirt and detritus of everyday life attracts pigeons, rats, cockroaches, and silverfish. Traces of decay might be a welcome distraction or tangible connection with the outside or the natural world. At the same time, there is pride in maintaining cleanliness and order inside.
